Newborn Photos
When Owen was just five days old we had newborn photos taken at our home by Laura Santos. We are very happy with how they turned out.

2 Month Check-up
Owen had his two month check-up a couple of weeks late yesterday. His pediatrician said that he is doing extremely well and has already reached a four month milestone by being able to hold his head up while lying on his stomach using his forearms to prop himself up. He weighs 11 lbs 9.5 oz, is 23 5/8 inches long and his head circumference is 15.5 inches. He also had two combination shots (versus four separate shots, which we are thankful for). Of course he screamed when they were given, but he nursed immediately after and then fell right asleep. He was a bit fussy yesterday evening, but that is to be expected. It's really hard to see your little one in pain. He slept really well last night and seems to be doing fine today. Now that he's found his hands he really enjoys clasping them together and putting them in his mouth. Our little boy is getting so big.

Houdini
Since birth Owen has been a big fan of the swaddle. Swaddling will typically soothe him and he sleeps much better being wrapped tightly as a little burrito baby. We prefer the SwaddleMe blankets because they take the work out of swaddling with their velcro fasteners.
Although he enjoys being swaddled, that hasn't prevented him from attempting to become unswaddled.
This is Owen swaddled:

I woke up to him wearing his swaddle like this for a late night/early morning feeding. Our little Houdini.

2 Months
We can't believe our little boy is two months today. He's definitely putting on weight. He now has rolls around his upper thighs. He weighed 10 lbs 2 oz (while wearing a dry diaper) a week and a half ago. His two month check-up is next week. We're curious to see what he weighs then and how tall he is.
Owen's doing fantastically well except the little bit of trouble he's having with gas lately, which makes for a fairly uncomfortable baby. He's smiling, cooing, and talking a lot, which is a lot of fun. The other day while I was bouncing him to sleep, without being prompted and his eyes wide open, he looked up at me and smiled as if to say, "Ha ha, I'm not going to sleep," little stinker. He is a very alert little boy.
Owen continues to sleep less than your average newborn. Thankfully he is a pretty great night sleeper; usually sleeping between three and a half to five hours (three times he's almost slept six hours, I felt like a new woman the next morning), followed by a short feeding, another two and a half hour sleep, another feeding and finally another one to two hour sleep. However, during the day, roughly between 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., he's been known to sleep as little as two hours. He averages about 13 hours a day, compared to the 15-16 average. He also now thinks it's a fun game to fall asleep in my arms and then wake when I try to put him down. Mom does not think that is a fun game.
We enjoy each and every day with him.

Bain Family Get-Together
Andrew's brother Travis and his girlfriend Kerstin and Andrew's mom Deborah flew in a couple of weekends ago to celebrate Deborah's 60th Birthday. We celebrated with Scotch, well everyone but the breastfeeding mom, and a BBQ. We lucked out with the weather, thankfully it was sunny and warm.
Owen met Uncle Travis & Aunt Kerstin for the first time. Travis wasn't exactly sure what to do with Owen and admitted he would be more interested when Owen reaches the age when he can take him for the day and give him too much candy and soda and then send him home to us, as aunts and uncles do.

Look-alike
A couple of weeks ago out of the blue, Andrew pointed out that Owen looked a lot like his adorable cousin Kellin. We looked at some photos of Kellin around the same age and they definitely look alike. They have the same forehead, nose and eye shape and maybe mouth (all Buchholtz traits), but Owen definitely has his dad's cleft chin and his very own dimple just to the right of his upper lip.

10 Things We've Learned About Owen
1. He does not like his car seat. It seems he thinks it is some form of torture. A lot of the times me loudly singing the 6 nursery rhymes on repeat that I remember will soothe him (who ever thought someone would actually enjoy my singing voice), sometimes the pacifier will, but other times nothing works and he just screams.
2. He hates getting his clothes changed. He doesn't mind clothes going over his head so much, but putting a sleeves on or off his arms is pretty horrible.
3. He doesn't wake with a smile on his face. He wakes upset that he wasn't being fed before he was even awake. (Andrew's mom said this is also how Andrew woke up, so I'm blaming this on him).
4. His changing table makes him happy. Smiles are guaranteed for me if he is chillin' on the changing table and I talk to him (of course only if we're not changing his clothes).
5. He needs to be put to bed. He's not the type of child that will willy nilly fall asleep because he's tired, oh no, he would like to be bounced, swaddled, and possibly listening to his music, i.e. white noise or extreme rain, before he's willing to close those eye lids.
6. He thinks peak-a-boo is a great game.
7. He's not shy about letting the world know when he's having a bowl movement. He clenches his fists, his face turns red and he grunts.
8. He doesn't think he needs very much sleep. For example, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. today he slept a total of 45 minutes.
9. He has acid reflux. This is something we figured out when he was five weeks old after two long weeks of a pretty unhappy baby. (Thankfully he wasn't diagnosed with 24 hour colic, which I thought it was possible since the symptoms seem similar; he was extremely fussy and inconsolable all waking hours). We first tried to limit dairy and soy from my diet, hold him upright 20 minutes after each feeding and have him sleep on an incline. After a week of this helping a little bit, but not a lot, he was prescribed Zantac and is much happier. I tried to introduce dairy back into my diet, but that seemed to bring on another bout of fussiness. For those who know me know this is a bit of a sacrifice, I do love my cheese, but I think it's worth it.
10. He's the best baby in the world.
