English Teacher

Since March I have been teaching English in the Dalian public school system a few hours a week. It has been an interesting experience. I've had a few regular classes each week and would also substitute teach. I work for a company, Rocky Mountain, that places foreign English speaking teachers in the public school system. I've taught children between the ages of 2 & 13. At some times it is a bit disorganized. I didn't always know where I was suppose to go or what I was suppose to go. For example, I have a bilingual assistant in the classroom with me since my Chinese is less than amazing. A few weeks ago all of a sudden the bilingual assistant just stopped coming to class and I was being escorted to classrooms by the students & one of the students translated for me. I didn't see one adult in the 2 hours I was at the school. Overall I enjoy it, but can't say I'm maybe the best teacher since I have few qualifications to teach English, except that I speak English. Hopefully the students I taught learned a thing or two.

During the last class, in typical Chinese fashion, awards were given for the "best" English speaker, which was determined only by one assessment on the final day of class.
